Rainforest Faeries

Experimental photography – dragonfly Far North Queensland, Australia 2020

After the monsoon rains

sunbeams caress rainforest foliage.

Birds of paradise spread their silken wings

and dance to the call of love.

Chambers of broad leaf ferns

bend in a calm greeting to forest floor dwelers

where Orchids bloom

beside Angel Wing Begonias.

Mischievous faeries dare to roam

throughout the high canopy

mimicking chattering bird calls

that travel downward and across wooded landscape,

crossing borders between humanity and the enchanted.

Flickers of movement within Ragwort climbers,

behind ancient stone heaps

cannot be caught on film,

for fear of becoming a substitute changeling.

With the softest touch

the Guardian Angel of the rainforest

strokes the warm, nebulous land

bringing peace to the kingdom

and silence enters the unknown world,

where dragonflies unfurl their wings.

I hear the echoes of this enchanting and mystique place in my heart after reading this lush writing! I love how you hint at exotic creatures fauna and come full circle to something as simple and awe-inspiring as a dragonfly. ❤

Thank you! Sitting at home in lockdown my thoughts wandered to better times in the Queensland rainforest, watching the beautiful dragonflies flit across the shallow river bed
