Mountain Morning Memory

Mountain morning

Simplistic thoughts chained in your diary

Changed the way I saw you

And the world you lived in

I was so caught up in wanting more

That I didn’t connect the dots

To listen enough

To take the time to focus

Before you were gone

I listen to the earth where you lay hidden

But barely hear the breeze flowing across the worn grass underfoot

Your picture on the cold stone stares past me

Beyond my known comprehension

I’m sorry for my loss

You left a space that no one will fill

Not at least

In this lifetime
